چکیده
In 2010, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in collaboration with the American Academy of Family Physicians, American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), American College of Nurse-Midwives, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and American Society for Microbiology published revised group B streptococcal (GBS) guidelines entitled “Prevention of perinatal group B streptococcal disease: revised guidelines from CDC 2010” in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR). The recommendations were endorsed by all the collaborating organizations including AAP after review by the Committee on Infectious Diseases (COID) and the Committee on Fetus and Newborn (COFN) and after AAP Board approval. In the report, a revised algorithm for “Secondary prevention of earlyonset group B streptococcal disease” was included. This algorithm represented the expert opinions of the technical working group (based on current literature available at that time). In 2011, the COID and the COFN published a policy statement in Pediatrics that was in agreement with the 2010 GBS guidelines and included the same algorithm.

Management of neonates with suspected or proven early-onset bacterial sepsis.
With improved obstetrical management and evidence-based use of intrapartum antimicrobial therapy, early-onset neonatal sepsis is becoming less frequent. However, early-onset sepsis remains one of the most common causes of neonatal morbidity and mortality in the preterm population. The identification of neonates at risk for early-onset sepsis is frequently based on a constellation of perinatal r...

متن کاملUse of Serial C-reactive Protein Measure-ments for Determination of the Length of Empiric Antibiotic Therapy in Suspected Neonatal Sepsis
Background: The management of neonatal sepsis especially in developing countries is problematic. There is no single reliable marker of infection available at the present. C-reactive protein (CRP) has long been used as a marker of infection. Serial measurements of CRP are recommended as a guide for duration of antibiotic therapy. Objective: To evaluate the serial CRP measurement as a guideline...
متن کاملAssociation between umbilical cord blood laboratory findings with early onset neonatal sepsis
Backgrounds: Finding an efficient biomarker or combination of them as predictors of early-onset neonatal sepsis is very important. On the other hand, the use of umbilical cord blood samples in laboratory tests, along with its simplicity and availability, reflects neonate metabolic status. Background and Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between umbilical cord bloo...
متن کاملTreatment of neonatal sepsis with intravenous immune globulin.
BACKGROUND Neonatal sepsis is a major cause of death and complications despite antibiotic treatment. Effective adjunctive treatments are needed. Newborn infants are relatively deficient in endogenous immunoglobulin. Meta-analyses of trials of intravenous immune globulin for suspected or proven neonatal sepsis suggest a reduced rate of death from any cause, but the trials have been small and hav...
